Swerve In Our Glory are your new AEW World Tag Team Champions, and whilst the quick nature of The Young Bucks latest run with the gold has surprised some fans, it was all part of the plan.

That’s according to a report from Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“The match was to elevate both Lee & Strickland, and Hobbs & Starks to the level with Young Bucks, Lucha Brothers and FTR as the ‘big five’ tag teams, now that Santana & Ortiz (Santana’s injury), the Hardys, and Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy are no longer teaming. The plan was always to get the belts on Lee & Strickland with the teased break-up spots to make it a surprise. When Jeff Hardy had his issue and the Young Bucks got the tag titles - necessary since it was planned for Christian to turn on Jungle Boy - they were set to immediately lose to Lee & Strickland.”

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland were brought in as singles stars, but their chemistry as a team can’t be ignored:

“The feeling has been that Lee & Strickland have had tremendous matches and they are going with this Shaq/Kobe idea of the large, charismatic upbeat guy with the other superstar on the team that doesn’t always get along. The teases of the heel turn by Strickland was at least partially to make the title change a surprise,” continued Meltzer.
