Report: AEW Made A Profit In April

On a recent episode of the AEW: Unrestricted podcast, Tony Khan said All Elite Wrestling had lost millions of dollars from the loss of live gates because of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this, Khan stated the young promotion was the second-healthiest company in the industry.

Now, Dave Meltzer has reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW actually made a "very small profit" in April. Meltzer noted the money they made did not make up for the loss of live gates, but it did keep the company in the black.

AEW was able to turn a profit because the tapings at QT Marshall's gym in Norcross, Georgia at the start of the month kept production costs down as the promotion taped four weeks worth of content in two days. This meant the promotion saved money as they didn't have to fly talent in and out every week. The reduced production costs also combined with the guaranteed TV money from TNT and merchandise sales online.

AEW has since returned to running a combination of live and taped shows from Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. This week's episode of Dynamite was taped in advance, but the May 20 and May 27 editions will be broadcast live, as will the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view.
