The 34th edition of Survivor Series will once again be dominated by the battle for brand supremacy as Superstars and champions from Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown will face off against their colleagues on the other show. NXT emerged victorious at Survivor Series last year but a new winner must be crowned as the black and gold brand won't be involved on November 22.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer, "a lot of people" in WWE are opposed to Survivor Series' current format of booking champion vs. champion matches every year.

Meltzer said: "I tell you what, that's like the mentality that they have. This is another new one. It's like they're doing matches because traditionally that's what they do. And again, the Survivor Series men and women's matches, that's fine. But whoever it's gonna be, Roman Reigns against Randy Orton match, it's like they're doing it to do it.

"And granted, Roman Reigns has no opponent but Orton does and they're not doing it. And it's not like Roman Reigns is on the show this week doing something with Orton. Orton's programmes are with McIntyre and the subtle thing with The Fiend. Well, it's maybe not even that subtle. And it's got nothing to do with the pay-per-view because they are locked in to this traditional thing. And I know a lot of people… I know people who are not in agreement on that in the sense of why do we have to do Bobby Lashley against Sami Zayn when nobody wants to see it because last year we did it this way."
