WWE have confirmed that Pat McAfee will join Michael Cole in the Smackdown commentary team.

McAfee will work as an 'analyst' for WWE and feature alongside Cole on the blue brand after Corey Graves was moved to Raw and joined a three-man booth with Adnan Virk and Byron Saxton.

Both WWE and McAfee announced the news at the same time, with McAfee confirming the appointment in a hype video on his Twitter feed, which included Vince McMahon and Cole welcoming the 33-year-old to Friday Night Smackdown on Fox.

In an official announcement on WWE.com, McAfee said: "For as long as I can remember WWE has been a company that I have admired, both for its incredible staying power of creating riveting entertainment and for its ability to connect people all over the globe.

"I’ve been fortunate to try a lot of cool professions but working for WWE was the one I looked forward to most. I am incredibly honored and grateful for the chance to give back to the business that has given me and many others so much and having the opportunity to sit at the same table that legends have graced is truly a dream come true. Now let’s go get it."

McAfee has previously performed both in and out of the ring on WWE NXT, facing Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver 30, while also competing in WarGames against the Undisputed Era.

The 33-year-old has previously also appeared on Smackdown as a special guest in the commentator's booth, filling in temporarily in November 2019 with Cole and Graves stuck in Saudi Arabia after the Crown Jewel event the previous evening.
