If you count 2018's All In pay-per-view as part of the overall AEW output, then reigning NWA World champion Nick Aldis is a part of AEW lore - it was at that event in Chicago that he dropped the title to Cody Rhodes, in an emotional, well-built encounter.
Aldis remains the face of the refreshed National Wrestling Alliance, admitting he chose the NWA over All Elite Wrestling, despite being offered a contract by the latter.
"The National Treasure" recently spoke with
Sports Illustrated, and did say that he's open to working with AEW in some high-level crossover.
"The NWA is open to working with anyone," said Aldis, who claims that him working with AEW is brought up "almost daily".
He adds, "There are a number of wrestlers outside the WWE that are viewed as elite-level guys, so it’s only a matter of time before the audience starts demanding the main-event matches they want to see. We want to give the fans the matches they want to see, these super fights.
“If AEW wants to be involved in big, marquee matches, then they have two choices: go out and write some more big checks to some more guys, or they’re going to have to come to the table and work out some super fights with the NWA.”
