NJPW held Night Two of their Wrestling Dontaku show today on May 4 at the Fukoka Convention Center in Fukoka, Japan, and it was an event that saw some huge title matches involving Jon Moxley’s IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, Shingo Takagi’s Never Openweight gold, Bishamon putting the IWGP Tag Team Titles on the line.
Last night’s show saw a title change in Jeff Cobb ousting Zack Sabre Jr of the NJPW World Television Title, and this night was no different with another title change taking place, as David Finlay won back the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship from Nic Nemeth, who had just defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to retain the gold the night before. Their match began on the ramp with a brawl, with Finlay gaining the advantage. Despite some flurries from the former Dolph Ziggler, Finlay hit two powerbombs and an Overkill for the win.
Additionally, the BULLET CLUB duo of Kenta & Chase Owens defeated Bishamon for the IWGP Tag Team Championships. The heels used some nefarious tactics to get the job done here, including referee distractions and a low blow. After the bell, both GoD and TMDK made their intentions known to the new champs.
Shingo Takagi and Gabe Kidd had a wild brawl for the NEVER Openweight Title, with intense strikes, chops, chair shots, and some impactful moves. There were some back and forths towards the end of the match, but Takagi got the job done with the Last Of The Dragon.
In a hectic and overbooked main event, Jon Moxley retained his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Ren Narita. This match saw a whole bunch of interference from House Of Torture, El Phantasmo, and Shota Umino. The end saw a lights off moment, allowing the heels to gain the advantage, only for Umino to free himself from handcuffs and help Moxley score the win.
