NJPW STRONG presented their first-ever show outside of North America today as night one of NJPW STRONG Independence Day emanated from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
The show was headlined by an Exciting Encounter Doomsday No DQ Match that pitted Jon Moxley and Homicide against El Desperado and Jun Kasai. The match lived up to the death match expectations as it featured kendo sticks, spikes, trash can lids, a fork-covered board, and a butcher's knife. After plenty of carnage, El Desperado picked up the win for his team following a Low Blow and two Pinche Locos, including one on a trash can, to Homicide.
Two title changes also took place at NJPW STRONG Independence Day. Bullet Club's Gabe Kidd and Alex Coughlin first defeated Bishamon for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships before Bullet Club's big night continued as Drilla Moloney and Clark Connors captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles from Francesco Akira and TJP of Catch 2/2.
Eddie Kingston also made his debut inside Korakuen Hall as he teamed with Rocky Romero to defeat KENTA and Gedo. Kingston and KENTA will go one-on-one for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship during night two of NJPW STRONG Independence Day on July 5.
