WWE star Nick Aldis believes recent comments he made about the prospect of CM Punk returning to the company were taken out of context.
A clip was shared on social media platform X last week showing a portion of an interview the SmackDown General Manager gave to BBC Norfolk's Rob Butler.
In the clip, Aldis said the following about Punk:
"He's built and cultivated a huge fanbase, he sells a tonne of merchandise, he moves numbers, he sells tickets, he puts butts in seats…call me old-fashioned but that trumps everything else. There is a way for him to compete in WWE & I think that if it can be done and I think there is a way it can be really good business for everybody and I will wait with bated breath like everyone else to see if it happens, but if it does I'll be excited to be involved with it".
Once the clip starting gaining traction, the 37-year-old (who also works as a backstage producer) tweeted:
"I'm disappointed that this answer is edited out of context, considering it's the BBC. For the record, I have no dog in the fight, and that situation is above my paygrade. Be better journalists".
Fightful Select has reported that Aldis' response was prefaced with something like "It's not up to me, but..."
It remains to be seen whether Punk will actually make a WWE comeback, though a recent report suggests that WWE creative do not have him factored into plans moving forward.
