Mistico (Former Sin Cara) To Make AEW Debut
The legendary Mistico set to make AEW debut
Oct 13, 2023
Mexican wrestling sensation Mistico will make his AEW debut on the October 20 edition of Rampage.
The 40-year-old luchador will take on Rocky Romero on the show, which will be taped on the October 18 Dynamite show in Rosenberg, Texas.
AEW co-owner Tony Khan made the announcement, suggesting that fans tune in to AEW television in the run up to the show to learn about the history between Mistico and Romero.
Mistico and Romero were recently on opposite sides of a six-man tag match, when they clashed at CMLL's ninetieth anniversary show on September 16. Mistico's team were victorious, though Romero's squad attacked them after the match and stole their masks (with Romero taking Mistico's).
Mistico and Romero both currently hold CMLL gold. Mistico is in possession of the NWA World Historic Middleweight Championship, while Romero is the NWA World Historic Welterweight Champion.
While Mistico - who has also wrestled as Myzteziz and Caristico - is considered a legend in his homeland, many wrestling fans will remember him as the original Sin Cara in WWE. Brought in with the hope that he would be the successor to Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara's three-year WWE run was considered a major flop.
The move is a first for AEW, with the promotion having working relationship with Lucha Libre AAA - CMLL's fierce rival. Whether this is a one-off or part of a new working agreement remains to be seen, although CMLL recently announced a new promotional partnership/strategy with NJPW, and MLW.
