Mercedes Moné is no longer your IWGP Women’s World Champion.

Amidst rumours of both her time in NJPW/Stardom coming to an end and an apparent contract extension, she has dropped her title to Mayu Iwatani at Stardom’s All Star Grand Queendom event on April 23 at the Yokohama Arena.

Iwatani scored a huge victory, outlasting Moné’s offense and even kicking out of her finisher, before nailing Moné with a brutal two-step dragon suplex for the three count, becoming the brand new titleholder and third champion after both Kairi and Moné.

After the bell, Moné delivered a promo in which she stated that she loved being the “CEO” of Stardom, but admitted that the new champion is the true icon of the promotion, and asked her to take care of the IWGP Women’s Championship. It is unclear what the long-term future now holds for Moné in NJPW/Stardom, though she did ask for one more match before leaving. When and where that will take place wasn’t confirmed.
