Linda McMahon Resigns As Head Of US Small Business Administration

McMahon was first nominated to the position in December 2016 by then-President-elect Donald Trump, with her confirmation hearings beginning four days after Trump took office in January 2017. She was confirmed into the position on February 1, 2017 by an 18-1 vote.

It's not clear why McMahon resigned from her position, although speculation from several insiders claims that she intends to play a large role in the fundraising efforts for Trump's 2020 re-election campaign.

McMahon's public foray into politics began a decade ago when she was appointed to the Connecticut State Board of Education in January 2009. Later that year, she announced her bid for US Senate, resigning from her long-held CEO position in WWE to do so (husband Vince has acted as CEO since).

She lost to Democratic rival Richard Blumenthal in the 2010 midterm election by 11 percent. Two years later, McMahon ran once more for a Senate seat out of Connecticut, but lost again, this time to opponent Chris Murphy.
