After Katsuyori Shibata suffered a then career ending subdural hematoma in 2017, an erroneous report from Dave Meltzer suggested that the legendary NJPW star had his ‘brain removed’ during surgery in order to save his life.

Such a procedure is only possible within the realms of possibility, as Shibata noted when asked by RJ City if he did indeed have his brain removed:

“Are you trying to make a joke out of this? An injury that took me five years to come back to the ring, you think it's funny? You think it's funny?” Said Shibata on Hey EW!, before adding that he’s ‘not RoboCop’ after City asked him whose brain he received during the procedure.

Shibata made his return to the ring in 2021, later joining Ring of Honor in 2022. ‘The Wrestler’ recently had to depart ROH to return to Japan, dropping the ROH Pure Championship to Wheeler Yuta on his way out. It is currently unknown why Shibata had to make such a sudden exit, nor if he is set to return to Ring of Honor in the future.
