John Cena Returns At WWE Money In The Bank 2021
Turns out, you can see him after all
Jul 19, 2021
Nearly 16 months after his last appearance in the company, John Cena returned to WWE at the conclusion of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Sunday night in Fort Worth.
After Universal champion Roman Reigns defeated Edge in the main event of the pay-per-view (with an assist from Seth Rollins), Reigns' post-match promo was interrupted by Cena's music.
Cena then made his entrance, and hit the ring, where he and Reigns briefly made eye contact. Cena then appealed to the cheering crowd while Reigns expressed annoyance, before the show faded to black.
Cena vs. Reigns for the Universal championship had been rumored for SummerSlam for some time.
Cena has not appeared for WWE since WrestleMania 36 in 2020, when he lost to Bray Wyatt in the rather abstract "Firefly Fun House" match. His last match in front of a crowd took place on the January 14, 2019 episode of Monday Night Raw, losing in a fatal four way match that was won by Finn Balor.
Cena's last SummerSlam match came against Baron Corbin in 2017.
