One of the most notable figures in professional wrestling history, for better or for worse, has passed away, it has been revealed. Former head of Turner Broadcasting, Joe Kellner, died in his home in California over the last few days at the age of 77, first reported by Variety.

Kellner had influence across media, being a figurehead name in the launching of both FOX and The WB, having a hand behind popular and iconic shows such as The Simpsons, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, and countless others. When it comes to professional wrestling, Kellner is credited as the man who finally brought WCW to an end.

In 2001, when he took over the role as head of broadcasting, Kellner made the call to cancel WCW shows across TBS and TNT Networks. The decision was made due to WCW’s loss of money for the network, and the decision to move TBS and TNT in a different path. This opened the door to Vince McMahon and WWE buying WCW, as other competitors pulled out of the running due to the lack of TV deal.
