Two-time former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez fights on Sunday night in Phoenix, headlining the UFC on ESPN 1 card against powerful upstart Francis Ngannou. The event occupies much of the same time slot as WWE's own cage-based card, the Elimination Chamber, emanating from Houston.
Velasquez, however, has WWE on the brain, based on an
interview done with The MAC Lifeearlier this weekend.
The 36-year-old trained at WWE's Performance Center last July, and is highly interested in pursuing a run with the company, win or no win against Ngannou.
When asked what the chances are that he ends up with WWE, Velasquez said, "I would say 70 percent."
Velasquez noted the familial sense he got from hanging around the WWE staff and training grounds, adding, "The feeling I got with WWE, training at the Performance Center, the camaraderie that they had - it's definitely a family."
"They had a show that week, NXT, and Triple H was there. The way that he talked to everyone, all the wrestlers, it was a family. They were all working together with one goal, to make WWE the best thing that they can. I like that aspect of it."
Coincidentally, Velasquez won his first Heavyweight title with a TKO victory over then-champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 in Anaheim in October 2010. If they need someone to get the Universal belt off of Brock...
