Since returning to NXT in October 2019, Finn Balor has enjoyed a successful second stint on the black and gold brand. He has competed in widely-praised matches against the likes of Kyle O'Reilly, Pete Dunne, Timothy Thatcher, Johnny Gargano, Damian Priest and Adam Cole and he is the reigning NXT Champion, having captured the title back in September 2020.

It could have been so different for The Prince, though, as he revealed on After The Bell that his latest NXT run was only supposed to last three months.

"I didn't know what to expect. I was kind of under the impression it was gonna be like a three-month deal and kind of reboot Finn and reset and go back to Raw or go back to SmackDown and kind of go back to things as normal, but it's kind of evolved into something that I don't think anyone expected. I think it's thanks to how NXT is also evolving and really truly its own brand now," Balor said.

Many expect the former Universal Champion to return to the main roster at some point, and while Balor admitted he's super happy in NXT, he's sure he'll end up back on Raw or SmackDown at some point.

"So I don't know what to expect going forward, I don't know how long it's going to last but I have to say I'm super happy in NXT. There's no reason for me to want to move anywhere in my career at this point. I feel like I'm still growing. And I think that's one of the best things I've done in my career is like knowing when to move and knowing when there's something to change. And that was the case in Europe and that was the case in Japan and that was the case when I was on Raw and SmackDown. I'm sure I will get to a point where I know this NXT [run] has run its course and it will be time to make a change but I don’t see that coming anytime soon," the NXT Champion added.
