Fan Chants Censored During WWE NXT Premiere On The CW
Censorship during WWE NXT's premiere on The CW
Oct 2, 2024
WWE NXT suffered from censorship issues during the brand's premiere on The CW on Tuesday night.
The show aired from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois and the event featured "Holy sh*t" chants from the fans in attendance. The chants were ultimately bleeped out during the broadcast on The CW and Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported the censorship of the chants was done on the CW side and may be related to The CW's status as a broadcast network.
WWE suffered from censorship issues while airing Friday Night SmackDown on Fox - another broadcast network - and chants from the crowd were often silenced, while cursing from the wrestlers was regularly bleeped out. This led to frustration within WWE, particularly in the Summer of 2024, and a WWE talent noted the show was sometimes a chore to watch because of the editing by Fox.
Outside of chants being censored, WWE NXT's premiere on The CW featured several changes for the brand, including a new logo and new championship belts. A new WWE NXT Champion was also crowned during the show, with Trick Williams defeating Ethan Page.
