Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has fuelled speculation regarding a future run as a USA presidential candidate, saying he will put himself forward "if that's what the people wanted".

The former WWE champion and Hollywood star has previously teased taking his career into a political direction, first mentioning a run for the United States' highest office in 2017, while continuing to suggest the possibility on his social media channels since.

The Rock has now added further fuel to the fire by saying it would be a very real possibility, so long as it was what the general public wanted him to do.

Speaking to USA Today, the 48-year-old said: "I would consider a presidential run in the future if that's what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I'm not flippant in any way with my answer.

"That would be up to the people... So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground."

Johnson is currently promoting his new television show, Young Rock, which details his life as a kid and teenager and, ironically, ends with a presidential campaign in 2032 from the man himself.

The 2000 Royal Rumble winner has openly admitted to being a political independent and voting both Democrat and Republican in the past, and publicly endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 presidential campaign.
