The hardest thing for an emerging brand entering an established space is gaining recognition and attention, convincing indifferent people to try out your product.
It’s true in wrestling as it is in all walks of life, as All Elite Wrestling have found out. Entering a world dominated for so long by WWE, AEW have now entered a period where they need to get more eyes on the product outside of hardcore wrestling fans and previous converts, and Darby Allin wants to lead the charge in getting more people on board with AEW.
Allin recently spoke with Forbes, and highlighted how he uses his outside-the-ring activity and commitments to spread the word of AEW:
“They give us so much creative freedom in and out of the ring. I’m trying to push the limits of what a professional wrestler can do,” Allin said. “If I go to Nitro Circus, I’m gonna backflip the big wheel. I will be the guy that gets more eyes on AEW.”
Allin continued, noting how he is in a unique position compared to the rest of the AEW roster:
“You’re never gonna catch another wrestler backflipping a big wheel,” Allin said. “You’re never gonna catch another wrestler hiking Mount Everest or skateboarding with Tony Hawk. It’s just not gonna happen, and I’m willing to go, physically, places not a lot of other people are. If I have to be the guinea pig through my insanity outside the ring to get more eyes on AEW, let’s go.”
Earlier this year, Allin announced his intention to scale Mount Everest in 2024.
