John Cena has been cast in a new spy thriller movie, set to begin filming next month.
The 16-time WWE Champion, who has recently featured in The Fast & Furious 9 and also appears as 'Peacemaker' in the upcoming 'The Suicide Squad' movie, was confirmed as taking a role in the new spy thriller film 'Argylle', according to Variety.
Cena will be involved in an all-star cast that also includes Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, Sam Rockwell and Catherine O'Hara, while pop musician Dua Lipa will also make her acting debut.
Cena's involvement has thrown up questions concerning his status for WWE SummerSlam 2021. The 44-year-old has previously confirmed he will be returning to WWE and numerous reports have indicated the promotion want him and Roman Reigns to compete for the Universal Championship in a mega main-event at the pay-per-view on Saturday 21 August in Las Vegas.
However, 'Argylle' is set to begin filming in Europe next month, so it remains to be seen is the movie's tight schedule permits for Cena to be involved at WWE SummerSlam 2021, as initially believed.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, 'Argylle' is based on a to-be-published novel and will follow the adventures of a super-spy named Argylle in their adventures across the United States, London and the world. It is reported that the 'Argylle' franchise will consist of at least three films.
