Some members of the WWE backstage team reportedly raised concerns regarding the decision to have Roman Reigns main event WWE Survivor Series 2021, for fear that fans would expect some form of involvement from his cousin, The Rock.

Reports prior to the show indicated that Reigns vs. Big E would open the Survivor Series card, while the personal battle between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch would main event the show. However, a late decision appears to have led to the order of the pay-per-view being reversed.

According to Fightful Select, the order for the show had initially been set as early as Thursday. However, when some members of the WWE backroom team learned that The Rock was not scheduled to be involved in any capacity on the card - with the 2021 Survivor Series marking the 25th anniversary of his debut - they raised some concerns about Reigns main-eventing.

The reasoning would be that having Reigns win his match and pose tall at the end of the show might have some fans anticipating a surprise appearance from The Great One, potentially in order to set up a future match with the Universal Champion, which has been rumoured.

The Rock was heavily featured throughout the pay-per-view as WWE celebrated 25 years since his debut and heavily promoted his new movie, Red Notice.
