CM Punk has revealed the first time he spoke to Bryan Danielson about him joining All Elite Wrestling was after he made his shock debut at All Out 2021.

Danielson walked out into the arena at the close of AEW All Out on Sunday to confront Kenny Omega, The Elite and the also-debuting Adam Cole to close what had been a thrilling and exciting pay-per-view.

Punk, who himself joined AEW just a few weeks ago, wrestled his first match in over seven years on the All Out card against Darby Allin. Despite hearing the rumours about Danielson coming, the Second City Saviour did not reach out to his old Ring Of Honor and WWE colleague.

Speaking during the post-AEW All Out media scrum, Punk said: "I talked to him today. That’s it. I didn’t want to reach out to him and be like, ‘I know you’re coming brother,’ because I knew I would see him today, and I would talk to him.

"And I waited till he was done doing his thing and gave him a big hug, and it’s just exciting. It’s exciting to be here.”

Punk referenced Bryan Danielson joining AEW in an in-ring interview on Dynamite the week following his own debut.

"I think we’ve been doing a good job of keeping poorly kept secrets," Punk continued. “I think the fans here just want to have a good time, so it’s not so much about trying to shove somebody in the back door, draped in a curtain and hide from everybody, but I think we do a really good job with with surprises."
