Booker T was apparently just trying to be an entertainer.

The WWE Hall of Famer caused a stir last week after he suddenly claimed that he "almost had a little run-in" with CM Punk at the March 12 taping of WWE NXT. Punk was backstage at the show from the WWE Performance Center, although reports indicated he largely kept to himself outside of chatting to a few talents, Shawn Michaels, and Matt Bloom.

Booker T has now revealed the truth about his wild claim, stating on his Hall of Fame podcast that he was trying to entertain his fans.

"Look, me and CM Punk, we won't be having a fight, okay? I wanna let everyone know out there, I have no ill will towards CM Punk. Contrary to popular belief, I consider CM Punk a friend, alright? So when I'm saying something about CM Punk guys, do not take it literally... don't take it serious. Don't jump into that mud. If you hear me say anything here on the Hall of Fame, this show, it's show-related. I'm trying to entertain my fans, I'm trying to entertain the fans that's watching this, trying to give you guys a moment where you ain't gotta think about that kinda stuff," Booker said.

"So if you hear me say something about CM Punk, Corey Graves, Michael Cole, Brad (co-host), don't jump into any internet mess, alright? Let's just get that out there right now. Did I put it out there, did I say as far as I had a beef knowing I was gonna run up... yeah, I said it, but I'm entertaining guys, entertaining."

Following Booker T's claim it was noted there was frustration within WWE over the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion's comments, particularly as CM Punk has a history of backstage fights.

Instead of getting into an altercation with Booker T, though, CM Punk has instead reportedly been "very helpful" when backstage at NXT. Punk is currently out of action with a torn triceps but he confirmed he will be at WrestleMania 40.
