Billy Corgan Not Shutting Down The NWA
"We are NOT shutting down."
Jul 17, 2020
This week, reports surfaced that National Wrestling Alliance owner Billy Corgan was considering shutting down the promotion - with the most concrete claim coming from former WWE and IMPACT star, Raven.
Corgan himself has quickly shut down these rumours, emphatically reaffirming his commitment to the classic brand.
From Corgan's social media: “A quick note about the National Wrestling Alliance, which I fought for, and won ownership of a few years back. We are NOT shutting down.
“So please disregard any and all rumors to effect. The @NWA is not and will not be for sale, and those talent who are under contract remain under contract for a reason: which is that we at the NWA are trying to figure out a way to provide our great fans with wrestling content in a very, very tough environment. And, most importantly, keep our talent safe and the standard of production you’ve come to expect from us at a high level. Anything less, in my opinion, is unacceptable.
“So yes, appreciate the interest, appreciate the chatter, but don’t appreciate the unsourced rumors and speculation.”
The Covid-19 crisis and the recent Speaking Out movement have rocked the NWA, with no new episodes of NWA: Powerrr recorded since the start of the outbreak, and Vice President Dave Lagana resigning in June in wake of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Corgan’s commitment to the NWA is a massive boost, with several top stars also leaving to join rival companies many fans were fearing for the NWA’s future.
