Aleister Black has revealed WWE officials told him 'budget cuts' were the reason behind his release from WWE.

Black, along with Braun Strowman, Ruby Riott, Buddy Murphy, Lana and Santana Garrett, were announced as being let go by WWE on Wednesday 2 June in the latest round of departures from the promotion.

Budget cuts have been cited for almost all of WWE's releases since WrestleMania 37 in April and Black has confirmed this was the reason he was also given when told he was being let go.

Speaking in a candid discussion on Twitch, Black said: "I'm not sad. I'm not depressed. I'm sure there will be dark days and bad days. It's all up and down.

"I got told it was budget cuts. Whether it is or not, it doesn't matter. I had a great time and had a phenomenal four or five years. I'm really thankful WWE has done for me. I was given a platform, even in a limited amount, I was able to give you parts of my character."

Black had been working on a new 'Dark Father' character which had featured in numerous vignettes and re-debuted on SmackDown two weeks ago, attacking Big E.
