Almost seven years after he was forced to retire from professional wrestling because of concussion issues, Christian returned to the ring at Royal Rumble 2021 and made it to the final four before he was eliminated by Seth Rollins. Captain Charisma didn't end up signing with WWE, though, and he has since joined All Elite Wrestling on a multi-year deal.

Now Christian Cage once again, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion revealed on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette that he decided to return to the ring following his unsanctioned match against Randy Orton in June 2020.

"The whole thing kind of started when I did the unsanctioned match with Randy where I couldn't get physically touched. And it was a real thing and I was [like], 'Really? This is where I'm at? That I can't get touched,'" Cage said.

Christian noted he was unhappy following the match and he visited the University of South Florida Concussion Center in secret to see if he could return to the ring. The former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion ended up crushing the tests and the doctor cleared him for in-ring action.

Cage then spent the next several months getting in shape and he told Vince McMahon the news while backstage at Clash Of Champions 2020.
