Ace Austin explains why he joined Bullet Club
Apr 13, 2023
While the faction is currently undergoing changes in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Bullet Club has been stable in IMPACT Wrestling and two of the group's members in Ace Austin and Chris Bey are currently at the top of the IMPACT tag team division as the Ace & Bey Connection. The team have been IMPACT World Tag Team Champions since defeating the Motor City Machine Guns for the belts on March 2.
Ace Austin joined Bullet Club in the summer of 2022, becoming a part of the faction at the Best of the Super Juniors 29 final in early June as he helped El Phantasmo, Chase Owens, and Bad Luck Fale pick up a win over The United Empire. Austin had been a part of the BOSJ tournament, finishing with 10 points, but he ultimately didn't advance to the final.
Speaking with WrestlingNews.co, Austin revealed why he decided to join Bullet Club:
"When I had the opportunity to go to Japan for the first time, the Best of the Super Juniors, I wasn't going to Japan thinking to myself, 'Oh, I want to get into Bullet Club.' I just wanted to break in there and make a name for myself in the best way I could. I wanted to represent IMPACT Wrestling as X-Division Champion in the best way I could. But when the opportunity for Bullet Club showed itself, while I was there in Japan, it was kind of a no-brainer. That's the top of the industry right there. So if I want to be on top, of course, that was just a no-brainer decision."
Austin would lose the X-Division Title soon after and he moved to the tag team division with Chris Bey - who had been a part of Bullet Club since 2021. Outside of IMPACT, Austin and Bey represented Bullet Club in the 2022 Super Junior Tag League. They advanced to the final before losing to YOH & Lio Rush.
